Finnforest ThermoWood® interior decoration products are manufactured from thermal modified Nordic spruce and pine. The ThermoWood process gives the wood a characteristic rich dark brown colour all the way through to the core, improved stability, durability and thermal insulation properties.
The improved stability allows the use of wider dimensions compared with untreated wood, and as it is pitch-free and light-weight, ThermoWood is easy to work with. As it is dry and pure, it is ready for surface-treatment, such as a thin coat of pigmented oil or wax to preserve the wood’s colour and natural beauty. ThermoWood is hygienic and thus requires only light surface cleaning.
As a hygroscopic material, ThermoWood improves room air quality – its surface absorbs moisture when the humidity level rises; and when the air is dry, it releases moisture into the air. ThermoWood products are safe to use. Although the products have a characteristic odour, no harmful compounds are released into the air.
Finnforest ThermoWood® is perfect for bathroom and sauna linings since the wood’s dimensional stability, decay- and water-resistant properties remain constant also in humid areas. It is important, however, that ThermoWood is not constantly exposed to water or high humidity.
ThermoWood does not contain resin and its surface remains comfortable to touch even at higher temperatures due to its reduced thermal conductivity. Thermal modification makes ThermoWood hygienic and nutrient-free.
Chemical-free ThermoWood can be recycled or burned for energy production at the end of its life cycle.
